It does not require a separate model API integration.\n\nINSTALL AND VERIFY\n\nInstall both tools:\n\n    uv tool install interskein\n    uv tool install spindle-mcp\n\nRun the SKEIN service under systemd. The installed `skein-server` prints a ready user unit whose paths already point at this install:\n\n    mkdir -p ~/.config/systemd/user\n    skein-server --print-unit > ~/.config/systemd/user/skein.service\n    systemctl --user enable --now skein\n    skein doctor\n\n`skein doctor` checks the install, the SKEIN home, the project registry, the service, version agreement between CLI and service, and the packaged documentation. It exits non-zero when something is actually broken.\n\nInstall and start the Spindle service, then check it:\n\n    spindle install-service\n    spindle start\n    spindle doctor\n\n`spindle doctor` reports the CLI and service versions and paths, detected harness CLIs, and spool storage. Add `--smoke` to spawn one real read-only headless agent per harness and verify an answer comes back:\n\n    spindle doctor --smoke\n\nDo not continue until both doctors pass and at least one harness completes the smoke run.\n\nGIVE THE SETUP AGENT A PROJECT\n\nPaste the following work order into an existing interactive Claude Code or Codex session.\n\nBOOTSTRAP WORK ORDER\n\nAsk me for:\n\n- The absolute path to the project.\n- What I presently care about accomplishing in it.\n- Which installed harnesses Spindle should use.\n\nTreat what I care about as human input. Do not infer or replace it from repository contents.\n\nVerify before starting: `skein doctor` passes; `spindle doctor` passes; the project is a Git repository; at least one selected harness works headlessly. Do not modify project code during bootstrap; preserve all existing work, including uncommitted changes and stashes.\n\nIf the project has no `.skein/`, initialize it with `skein init --project NAME`, using a stable name derived from the repository. Give it the first agent's report and ask it to verify claims against the repository, reject vague or oversized tasks, identify missing evidence, refine each task until it has a clear boundary and completion check, and distinguish work needing the owner's judgment from work an agent can perform independently.\n\nSynthesize the two reports. Post one SKEIN finding titled: Project state at spiritengine bootstrap. It should describe the current state, the evidence consulted, important uncertainty, and any existing changes that must be preserved.\n\nPost one brief for an interactive pairing: why the owner's judgment or impetus is needed, what the pair will inspect or decide, and the concrete result that should exist when it ends.\n\nPost two or three briefs for autonomous work. Each must contain the exact objective, relevant files or subsystems, constraints and existing work to preserve, the tests or checks required for completion, whether code changes need an isolated shard, and a clear stop condition.\n\nDo not launch those work briefs.
